In 1905 he was selling medicine in Durant, Oklahoma.
He drowned in a pond at Giddings, Texas, when he left the boat to
retrieve an oar.

Ernest left his family and married Ora Vest before obtaining a divorce.
He was jailed for bigamy. When he was released he re-married Ora Vest.

Ernest made a tonic called Gillispie's Sarsaparilla Compound (the great
stomach tonic and blood purifier) and peddled it throughout the country.
My grandmother (Martha Virginia Glaspy) told me that she had helped
him make the tonic in a wash pot. The first year one of the main in-
gredients was squash (they had a bumper crop). The tonic was sold
through the Lisbon Drug Company in Lisbon, Texas
